Suffield · Hartford County · Connecticut

Farm country with a Main Street worth the drive.

Forty-two square miles of preserved farmland, tobacco sheds and a National-Register Main Street, fifteen minutes from Bradley International Airport and a world away from hurry.

Why Suffield

What living here actually feels like.

Suffield is why West Suffield exists: the parent town, settled in 1670, still shaped by its river-bottom soil. Its center holds a National Register historic district around the Phelps-Hatheway House; its outskirts hold working dairy, berry and flower farms, many protected under the state farmland program so they stay farms.

Suffield Academy gives the town a prep-school pulse, Kent Memorial Library gives it a living room, and the Suffield Land Conservancy keeps trails open through it all. The town publishes its own farm directory and runs the farmers market from the planning office — local government that treats agriculture as infrastructure.
