Somers · Hartford County · Connecticut
On the Massachusetts line, Somers keeps the fair — one of the oldest continuing fairs in Connecticut — plus orchard lanes, mill-pond history and star-heavy night skies.
Why Somers
The Four Town Fair has drawn crowds to Somers since the age of horse rings, and the town still arranges its calendar around harvests: apple stands on Route 190, the Somersville mill pond reflecting its nineteenth-century fabric, conga lines of tractors on parade day.
This is the quietest corner of the nine — ten thousand people across twenty-eight hilly square miles, dark enough for real stars. Somers Mountain’s ridgeline, the Congamond Lakes five minutes over the line in Southwick, and Sturbridge Village thirty minutes north give weekends more range than the population suggests.
